Parkside at Alexandria: Community Profile

About Parkside at Alexandria

Parkside at Alexandria is a mid-size condo community in Alexandria, VA. It offers quick access to I-395 and Seminary Rd.

The complex was constructed in the 1960s. It initially operated as rental apartments. In 2006 it was converted to condos after being refurbished. There are a total of 378 units.

Even though I-395 is very close by, road noise isn’t generally an issue. You do have a lot of helicopter traffic flying overhead daily though. Those V-22 Ospreys will make your windows rumble.

I often see ambulances and fire trucks speeding down Van Dorn, so this could also be a nuisance.

The current management company is Associa. This is the community’s main web site.

Details and Floorplans

You have a choice of several layouts, from one-bedroom, one-bath units, to three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath ones.

All three-bedroom and some two-bedroom units are townhome-style. This means the living/dining space is on the main level and the bedrooms are upstairs.

The one-bedroom units are usually below the two- and three-bedroom condos. So your bedroom could be below someone’s living room.

All units come with washer/dryer which you don’t always see with condos of this age.

The community is pet-friendly.

The only utilities included in the condo fee are water and sewer plus snow and trash removal. This is fairly standard.

Heating and hot water are all gas. And there is also gas cooking for the aspiring chefs out there.

All parking is unassigned on surface lots. There is some street parking along Van Dorn.

From what I hear, parking availability is an issue. If you come home later, you might have to park somewhere outside the community.

There are plenty of parks around, through you’ll probably have to drive there. You’ll find lots of jogging and biking trails too. Again, you may need to drive there first.

There is a huge 24/7 fitness center on Route 7: XSport Fitness. There is also a Planet Fitness down Van Dorn.

There are numerous retail options nearby. One is the Bradlee Shopping Center (Safeway, Starbucks, etc.). It’s a short drive down Van Dorn from the community.

Almost within walking distance is Seminary Plaza. It’s pretty small, but has an Aldi store.

Another option is the ageing Landmark Mall which is (hopefully) awaiting redevelopment in the coming years.

Then there is the Villages at Shirlington. It has plenty of shops and restaurants plus a movie theater, a real theater and a library.

A little farther out is the Bailey’s Crossroads shopping center. And of course the Pentagon City Mall.

Here’s a map with most of the current places of interest in the vicinity.
